Doi Onsen is located in Izu City, which is blessed with abundant nature and a tranquil landscape. The "Doi Cherry Blossoms" in Doi Onsen are said to be the earliest blooming cherry trees in Japan, and are rare in that they are at their best during the extremely cold season.

To coincide with the Doi Cherry Blossom Festival, the "Doi Cherry Blossom Festival" is held at Doi Onsen. This year's festival will be held from January 20 (Sat) to February 4 (Sun), 2024!

Highlights of the "Doi Cherry Blossom Festival

Doi cherry blossoms begin to open in mid-December, bloom in early January, and continue to bloom until mid-February. It is characterized by its large petals and long stems, with 6 to 7 flowers per branch. There are two types of color: red (deep pink) and white (white with light reddish tints). When the cherry trees are in full bloom, the entire tree is colored a gorgeous pink, reminding us that spring is just around the corner.

About 400 cherry trees are planted in the Doi Hot Spring Resort area. In the Doi area, cherry trees can be seen at Maruyama Sports Park, Koibito Misaki, Manpukuji Temple, Doi Kinzan, Okubo Satoyama, Matsubara Park, along Wangan Road, and Minami Elementary School Memorial Square.

Limited edition red seals are designed as paper cutouts

During the Dohi Festival, visitors can obtain a red seal with a cutout design at five locations: Saifukuji Temple, Dohi Shrine, Seiunji Temple, Anrakuji Temple, and Myozoji Temple. This red seal was created by Chiharu Mizuguchi, a paper cut artist born in Izu City, who heard directly from the priests and chief priests of each temple and shrine about the stories related to each temple and shrine, and wished for the happiness of the people.

The symbols of each temple and shrine are represented by paper cutouts, and when the five red seals are placed side by side, they look like a single picture.
