Fuji on a clear day. The plum trees in the Shuzenji Plum Grove usually begin blooming in late January and are in full bloom by mid-February, so visitors can enjoy cherry blossom viewing ahead of the spring season. The best time to view the ume blossoms is from early February to early March.

The plum grove is dotted with monuments such as "Monument to the Tale of Shuzenji" by Okamoto Chodo, and haiku monuments by Takahama Kyoshi, Ozaki Momiyo, Nakamura Kichiemon, and others associated with Shuzenji. The ume (plum) grove is appropriate for Shuzenji, where various literary giants have stayed.

East Plum Grove and West Plum Grove

There are two plum groves in the vast park: the East Plum Grove and the West Plum Grove. The East Plum Grove is the main part of the Shuzenji Plum Grove, and is also the best place to view Mt. Fuji. Other monuments include the Shuzenji Monogatari Monument and the Ozaki Momiji Phrase Monument.

The West Plum Grove is smaller in scale than the East Plum Grove, but the angle of the slope in the West Plum Grove makes it possible to see different plum blossoms from those in the East Plum Grove.

These East and West Plum Orchards are connected inside, so you can stroll through both gardens.
