Besshunkan is a museum where visitors can learn about and experience sake, operated by Meiri Sake Brewery, a sake brewery that has been in business since the Edo period.
Opened in 1998, the facility is a renovated ume (plum) liquor cellar.
Tastings and tours are available free of charge, making it a great place for plum wine lovers!

What kind of place is Besshunkan?

On the first floor, there are 70 tanks of plum wine, and on the second floor, tools that were actually used in sake production are on display.

The plums used as ingredients are 100% domestically grown green plums (variety name: Shirakaga).
Plums of uniform size and ripeness are pickled and then aged for a long period of time before being finished with brandy and honey for taste and aroma.
The product is named "Hyakunen Umeshu (plum wine for 100 years)" in the hope that it will be loved for many years to come.
