Visit to the brewery famous for "Takashimizu

Akita Prefecture is known as one of the best rice-producing areas in Japan. Where there is good rice, there is good sake," so we decided to put together a special feature on sake.
The first volume of our "Akita Sake Brewery Tour Special" was a visit to the famous sake brewery "Akita Sake Brewery" located about 3 km southwest of Akita Station in Kawamoto, Akita City. The site of the brewery is much larger than expected!

The site is much larger than I had expected, and I was lost until I came to the entrance of this place (*'omega'*).

Go to the Sennin Brewery

The red-roofed building in the back is the Senjinkura.
The head office has two breweries, the Senjin Brewery and the Senju Brewery, where sake is made mainly by hand.

Most of the work is done early in the morning, but if the timing is right, you can see the brewing process during a tour.

You can also sample the brewing water that was used here. The area is said to produce groundwater with low iron content, which is indispensable for sake brewing. The water is soft and mild to the palate!
At the end of the tour, we enjoyed sake tasting and shopping.

JR East Travel Service Center Akita is planning a city tour that includes a visit to the Takashimizu brewery. For details, please visit the JR East Travel Service Center Akita website.
