Do you know why Toyama Prefecture's red snow crab is so delicious? Toyama Bay, known as a "natural cistern," is one of the deepest bays in Japan, with water depths of more than 1,200 meters. It is only in Toyama Bay that red snow crabs are caught at a depth of 1,000 meters, and Toyama Bay is the only bay in Japan with a red snow crab fishing ground inside the bay! Because of the proximity of the fishing grounds, freshly caught crabs are traded at the market.

In this article, we would like to introduce some spots where you can eat delicious crab, which can be reached by public transportation from Kurobe Unazuki Onsen Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line!

Freshly Made House: Kaito (Fish Station: Kochi)

Fish Station Iketate, located next to Kurobe Fishing Port, is a facility directly managed by the Kurobe Fisheries Cooperative. At the restaurant "Koukaitou" in the Freshly Made Pavilion, you can enjoy sashimi and seafood rice bowls made with the freshest seafood. From fall through spring, the "Kani-don" (crab bowl) with a generous portion of morsels of red snow crab on top is a recommended dish. Each bowl of rice comes with a bowl of red snow crab miso soup. On weekends, the crew of the "Ebisu Maru," the only crab fishing boat in Kurobe, sells crabs. The red snow crab has a wide carapace and is filled with a lot of meat, and is marked with a unique tag unique to the fabric that indicates first-class quality.

We asked the manager, Mr. Kawabe for his recommendation!

From fall through winter, crab soup is sold outdoors on weekends, and at the Toretate Kan, red snow crabs are sold directly and handmade lunch boxes of dried crabs are available. The fresh fish section is spacious, with live, live fish on display in the storefront, and a wide variety of fresh, seasonal seafood landed at the fish market that morning. The freshness of nature's bounty caught in the sea right in front of you can be felt from its appearance. Please come visit us in Kurobe.
