On October 14, 2022, we celebrated the 150th anniversary of the railroad! With various stations all over Japan, railroads have become an indispensable means of transportation in our daily lives, haven't they?
So, this time we will focus on JR East's Uguisudani Station and introduce some trivia unique to Uguisudani Station!

Uguisudani, a town loved by the literati

Uguisudani Station opened on July 11, 1912, and celebrated exactly 110 years this year. Shiki Masaoka Shiki lived in the Uguisudani area, and Shiki-an, a restored version of his late residence, and the Higuchi Ichiyo Memorial Museum is located in Shimotani Ryusenji-cho (now Ryusen), where Higuchi Ichiyo lived during her Takekurabe serialization period.

At Uguisudani Station, the chirping of Japanese bush warblers is broadcast on the platform and concourse in the morning.

There is a theory that in the Edo period (1603-1867), a Japanese bush warbler from Kyoto was released into this area because of its accent, hence the name "Uguisudani.
