The highlights of the "Yellow & Autumn Leaves Festival & Autumn Night Stroll" are introduced here!

Visitors can enjoy the autumn foliage of the two ginkgo trees that represent Showa Kinen Park and the Japanese Garden, as well as ginkgo, maple, zelkova, plane tree, metasequoia, and other trees throughout the park. During the Yellow and Autumn Leaves Festival, maple trees, plane trees, and zelkova trees will color the area around the Flower Garden and Waterfowl Pond. In the Children's Forest, visitors can enjoy colorful yellow and red leaves of ginkgo, orange of metasequoia, and red of maple. Komorebi-no-oka is a good spot for viewing konara oak and maple trees from early to mid-December. The park in autumn colors has its own advantages in both daytime and nighttime, offering visitors a special time to enjoy the park.

Ginkgo boulevard in Katarai

The "Katarai Ginkgo Trees," representative of the park in autumn, are approximately 300 m long; although they are straight, the difference in elevation of the ground makes for a dynamic view with great depth. Unlike the ginkgo trees in Canard, where there are air restrictions, the ginkgo trees are characterized by their natural shape. Especially in mid-November, when the yellow leaves are at their peak, a golden tunnel appears, making it the most popular spot of the season. The warm light illumination is accompanied by a rhythmical sound and light performance every 15 minutes, which is sure to be a delight.

Japanese Garden

This Japanese garden was created to commemorate the wedding of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress. The garden is a traditional Japanese garden with a pond and fountain system that utilizes traditional techniques, and from mid to late November, the autumn leaves turn beautiful red. In the fall, visitors can enjoy the natural scenery of waterfalls, streams, beaches, and wooden bridges, in addition to the approximately 300 maple trees and snow-covered pine trees that change color as they walk around the pond. The garden includes a bonsai garden where visitors can view bonsai trees illuminated by lights. From Saturday, November 1 to Sunday, November 30, you can borrow a Japanese umbrella for free. Please make use of the Japanese umbrella to capture a memorable autumn photo.

Canard gingko trees

The "Canal" is located at the entrance of the park and is a spot for viewing the autumn leaves. The 200-meter-long waterway is flanked by five fountains of various sizes, and a total of 106 ginkgo trees are planted symmetrically in two rows on either side. Even with the same yellow effect, the "Katarai ginkgo avenue" combines the "beauty of a straight line" with "warm yellow lighting," while the "Canard" combines the "beauty of a shaped space" with "bright yellow lighting. The "Canal" will be decorated with different effects such as "bright yellow and white lighting" on the "beauty of the shaped space". This is one of the two major yellow leaf spots in Showa Kinen Park.

Collaboration with the "Reviving the Life of Trees" exhibition

The "Reviving the Life of Trees" exhibition, in cooperation with the Tokyo West Branch of the Sogetsu-kai, uses branches and other materials from the trees in the park to create works of art. The installation will be created from pruned trees, bamboos, and fallen trees caused by typhoons in the park, with the aim of reviving them as plastic works before they are returned to the soil as chips. The installation will be illuminated for visitors to enjoy not only during the daytime but also at night.
