Gero Onsen is one of the three best hot springs in Japan, and there are many stores selling cute-looking sweets made from local ingredients. Introduced here is Gero Pudding, which opened in March 2019 as the first pudding specialty store in Gero Onsen. Located right next to the onsen-themed "Gero Hatsudo Onsen Museum," it is marked by a cute pop frog motif.

Why frogs? You may wonder, but Gero Onsen is often decorated with frog motifs in reference to the reading of the local name and the sound of the "gerogero," or "croaking" sound. Upon entering the store, you will find frog and duck figurines everywhere in a space reminiscent of old-fashioned hot springs and public bathhouses.
Gero Pudding wants to bring "the taste of memories" to its customers... and in order to provide as delicious a pudding as possible, it is carefully handmade one by one in a workshop attached to the store. The pudding, which is said to be made with a traditional taste, uses natural Madagascar vanilla beans, carefully selected domestic eggs, local Gero milk, and other ingredients to create a soft and smooth texture with just the right amount of sweetness that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
Smooth puddings seem to be the mainstream nowadays, but for those who prefer a slightly firmer pudding, we recommend the "Gero Pudding (Retro)," a recreation of the old pudding. Other flavors available in the showcase include melon soda flavor with green jellies and cherries on top of the pudding, green tea flavor using the highest quality green tea from Uji and Tanba black beans that enhance the moderate bitterness of green tea, and fresh seasonal flavors using different seasonal fruits for a limited time. Pudding soft" with soft-serve ice cream on top of pudding also seems to be popular, and "cream soda" with soft-serve ice cream on top of melon soda is also new! Both are perfect for hot weather or after a bath.
Eat-in space
An example of photography
The restaurant's eat-in space is furnished with tiled benches that look like washrooms and Showa-style retro furniture. Although the space cannot be used for long periods of time now due to Corona measures, it is a space that looks good for placing purchased sweets and taking pictures, so why not make your trip a memorable one?
