The trees in the park usually begin to change color around mid-October.

There are many scenic spots in the rich nature of Hokuto City.

Hokuto City, where Shin-Hakodate Hokuto Station, the current terminus of the Hokkaido Shinkansen Line, is located, is home to many scenic spots. These include the Trappist Monastery, Hokkameji Temple known for its weeping cherry blossoms, and the Kijihiki Plateau, which is popular for its panoramic view from its observation deck. From among these scenic spots, we would like to introduce Hachironuma Park.

A park rich in nature decorated with seasonal flowers

Water lilies bloom from early summer to autumn.
Hachironuma is an artificial swamp, which was originally created by Chito Yamada, a samurai family from Iyo Province (present-day Ehime Prefecture) who moved to this area and started dairy farming in the Meiji era (1868-1912), and dug a pond to store water for his cows to drink. In the Taisho era (1912-1926), Chohachiro Nakamura, the first postmaster of Ohno Post Office, expanded the swamp to include surrounding wetlands for carp farming and paddy field irrigation, and after Chohachiro's death, it came to be called "Hachironuma" after his name.
The area was later developed in a five-year plan starting in 1975, and now, with a park golf course and a hands-on farm adjacent to it, it attracts many visitors as a place for recreation and relaxation.
Visitors can enjoy seasonal flowers such as kobushi (fistulas) in early spring, cherry blossoms, azaleas, and water lilies in summer.

Autumn is in full swing! The autumn leaves reflected on the surface of the water are breathtaking!

In addition to the lighting up, there are many other events.
The best time to visit Hachironuma Park in autumn is during the "HOKUTO Koyo Kairo," when the autumn leaves are illuminated.
The maple trees around the swamp are of course beautiful in the daytime, but the reflection of the colored leaves on the surface of Hachironuma at night will surely be an unforgettable sight. It is sure to be a photo-worthy sight.
