On September 15, 1600, during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the Eastern Army led by Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Western Army led by Ishida Mitsunari clashed in a battle for control of the country at Sekigahara, Fuwa County, Mino Province. It is said to be the place where the most fierce battle took place. When you think about it, the tranquil landscape looks different.
There are also other sites in the lush greenery of Jimbano Park, an 8-minute walk from JR Sekigahara Station, including "the site of the last Tokugawa Ieyasu camp," "the site where the first attack by the Matsudaira and Ii forces of the Eastern Army on the Ukita forces of the Western Army started the battle of Sekigahara," the site where the Kuroda and Takenaka forces took up positions, and the site where the signal fire was said to have been lit from this location. There are many places of interest in Sekigahara, including the Okayama (Maruyama) Beacon Fire Site, the site of the Kuroda and Takenaka forces' camp, and the tomb of Otani Yoshitsugu, which was quietly erected at the end of a path surrounded by trees. While it is good to walk around slowly, renting a bicycle is a convenient way to explore the many old battlefields scattered around the area. There are also many model courses such as "Kessen Course," "Tenka-tori Course," "West Army Course," and "East Army Course," so if you are interested, please check the Sekigahara Tourist Guide's website.
